When Covid Cooties Come Calling

Here’s an excerpt from a letter I received from my local hospital:  “…that you were exposed to the Covid-19 virus during your recent out-patient procedure….”

Oh, yeah! That’s just what I want to hear!

It didn’t come as much of a shock, to be honest, because I’d received a phone call a couple of days before the letter arrived. The wonderfully polite lady on the phone told me that I suffered exposure to a hospital worker who tested positive for Covid-19. Because of this, and out of an abundance of caution, she instructed me to self-quarantine for fourteen days. I was to cancel any appointments I had scheduled during that time, refrain from going anywhere in public that may place me near other people, etc.

Now, let me be honest. Staying home and away from other people is not a problem for me. Most of the time, it’s a personal preference. I am doing quite well in my recluse-in-training-internship. So these instructions didn’t elicit much of a response. Staying home and away from others is just another Tuesday around here.

At the time of this writing, it’s been ten days since I came into close contact with the Covid Cooties. I’ve been checking my temperature religiously with no abnormal readings. I’ve had no symptoms—definitely no problem with smelling or tasting food. The Thanksgiving feast was quite tasty, thank you!

I did have a brief episode of chills one morning. After consulting with my doctor, because I’m a good girl that way, we decided I’m old and reacted to a cold morning. Snuggled under a blanket and turned on the heat—problem solved!

So, it looks like I dodged the Covid Cooties bullet this time. Personally, I’ll be glad when this whole pandemic thing is over and done. I’m happy to be a recluse, but I want to be a recluse because it’s MY idea, not because some roving cooties decide to take up residence in my nasal cavity.
